This season’s first rally event for our crew was our
home event Milzis 2004 which took place in Cesis. Although the rally season
was almost over, we finished meritoriously. Of course, the first-time stress
did its job but after finishing SS1 in Auciems the feeling was way better.
The second stage went near a place called Rauna. This was the only special
stage held on normal roads not special tracks. That’s why we liked it the
best. Only at the end of this stage I mentioned some problems with clutch
when there had been coming smoke from it and the whole car was full with
them.
As a result we lost time in every start because the
connection of engine and the wheels was poor. And we couldn’t use more than
first two gears without loosing the connection in clutch. We also used
special 15” gravel tires instead of normal 14” which makes the clutch to
work even harder. But there were very few times when there was a need for
the 3 gear, the speeds were up to 100km/h (60 miles/h). We also liked one
other stage which was quite fast and most dangerous of all. We scored the
best result exactly in this stage. There were some quite spicy moments but
it just goes with the rallying.
We didn’t like Smiltenes stage that much because it was
a joint of a go-cart track and an auto-cross track. That way making us to
rip the gravel tires on tarmac. Plus there were some other stupid figures
like a lot of tires where you have to maneuver thru. But there was one fun
part also – a big puddle which going the first time stretched across two
corners. Later it was smaller, though.
Although we cannot expect a good result going for the
first time, we are satisfied with the successful finish and having the car
in one piece.
Start #38.
